Overview
The 2012 Kia Rio is a subcompact car offered in four-door sedan and five-door hatchback body styles. The Rio sedan is available in base, LX and SX trim levels, while the Rio5 hatchback comes in LX and SX trims. Equipped with either the standard five-speed manual transmission or optional electronically controlled four-speed automatic transmission - available on LX and SX trims - Rio overpowers the likes of segment competitors Chevrolet Aveo and Toyota Yaris. For 2012, Kia Rio has been completely redesigned giving it a smart look.
Power and performance
A 1.6-liter inline four-cylinder engine that produces 138 horsepower and 123 pound-feet of torque and matched to a six-speed manual transmission is standard on all 2012 Rio models. All Rio trim levels get a front engine, front-wheel drive layout.
Body and styling
The 2012 Kia Rio is available in both hatchback and sedan style. For 2012, the car has been completely redesigned.
The LX trim comes with 15-inch steel wheels, trip computer, power heated mirrors, satellite radio, etc. a 60/40 split folding rear seat and a four speaker sound system along with a CD player and a USB/iPod interface make the riding experience more pleasurable. An optional power package offers power windows and door locks with keyless entry.
The EX trim offers all the above features plus an additional chrome grille frame, cruise control, Bluetooth facility, upgraded audio speakers, center console with sliding armrest, and a tilt and telescoping steering wheel. There is a provision to add an optional EX Convenience package that adds 15-inch alloy wheels, rearview camera, and power folding outside mirror with integrated turn signal feature.
The SX trim is the highest end model that offers all the above features. Plus, dual exhaust tips, LED front accent/rear taillights and an upgraded gauge cluster display are also available. An optional SX Premium package is available that offers you to enjoy a sunroof, leather upholstery, heated front seats, and navigation system.
Safety Features
The 2012 Kia Rio sports sophisticated standard safety features that help avoid accidents and help minimize injuries when accidents are unavoidable. Dual front advanced airbags; dual front seat-mounted side and full-length side curtain airbags; seat-belt warning light; height-adjustable front seat belt anchors; side-impact door beams; three-point seat belts for all seating positions; tire pressure monitoring system; impact-absorbing steering column; front and rear crumple zones; and front seat-belt pre-tensioners with force limiters are some of the safety equipment offered across the board. A four-wheel anti-lock braking system is available on LX and SX models.
